Prosthetics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the replacement of destroyed or missing teeth by crowns, bridges and dentures.
Crowns completely embrace the worn tooth in order to protect the tooth structures. They can be metal-ceramic, zirconia, zirconia with applied ceramic, or all-ceramic. The best type of crown for the patient is selected based on the type of destruction, the type of remaining teeth and structures, and last but not least the type of bite.
Bridges are a block of connected crowns replacing one or more missing teeth. They are made of the same materials as the crowns.
